National Finalist - Meetings & Events Industry Awards
Territory business national finalist in 2006 Meetings & Events Industry Awards

Meetings and events tourism, or business tourism as it is known, represents the high yield end of tourism because of the high per-delegate spend. And the Territory Government is spending a lot of money to make sure the Territory gets its share of it. By the time the new Darwin Convention Centre opens next year they will have spent some $300 million.

Spending all that money is one thing. Making business tourism happen is another. For that the operators in the business tourism industry are needed, operators who will add value to the Convention Centre and other excellent venues in the Territory, operators who will deliver a memorable experience to delegates and their clients.

The Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) represents those people in the industry who make business tourism happen. And the MEA Awards recognise excellent business practice in the Meetings and Events Industry. They encourage industry professionals to excel in the achievement of their business and personal goals, and reward those who achieve outstanding results.

MEA's Meetings and Events Industry Awards are the premier accolade of best industry management practice and outstanding performance in the Australian meetings and events industry. The inaugural Awards, for the 2006 year, where held recently in Darwin.

Desliens Conference and Event Management were the N.T. winners in the category “Meetings Management – less than 8 employees’. The ‘Meetings Management’ category judges the business of running a 'meetings management' organisation, rather than the organisation of any one particular event or conference.

Desliens Conference & Event Management assists organisations stretched for time, resources and expertise by organising conferences, events and exhibitions that will enhance the reputation of their organisation. In 2005-2006 Desliens experienced significant growth in the number of conferences held and profitability. Their approach is to deliver value to their clients

As a result Desliens Conference and Event Management become a Finalist in their category, competing with the best in Australia, for the National Awards.

Treasure Gordon , Director of Desliens Conference and Event Management said “Becoming a National Finalist demonstrates that Territory Meetings Managers can hold their own on the national stage. Whilst this Award recognises our performance in 2005-06 we have continued to demonstrate our ability to successfully compete against national competition by winning the Commonwealth Department of Health & Ageing ‘Healthy for Life’ conference in Alice Springs later this year, and the International Association of Police Women’s conference in October 2008.”

Desliens are professional conference, event and exhibition managers, operating since 1993. In that time we have organised scores of conferences, exhibitions, events and seminars ranging from the very small to the National Landcare Conference in 2003 with more than 700 delegates, making it one of the largest conferences held in the Territory.
